Application Kit for the Rhodes Scholarship

Prepare your Rhodes Scholarship application from your own experience. This kit maps the four published criteria to the personal statement, academic statement and CV, shows where constituency rules differ, and keeps your GenAI and help declaration accurate.

What's inside

  • UK_Rhodes_User_Guide.docx

This guide: how the kit works, the programme's rules, and your final checklist.

  • UK_Rhodes_Statement_Worksheets_TEMPLATE.docx

Three sections: the personal statement with its three guiding questions, the academic statement of study, and your CV entries. Each has a space to copy your constituency's exact limit, recall questions, a structure planner and a self-check.

  • UK_Rhodes_STAR_Evidence_Bank_TRACKER.xlsx

Your stories in Situation, Task, Action, Result form, tagged to the four Rhodes criteria and three statement themes (labelled as such, not criteria), with a coverage sheet that shows gaps.

  • UK_Rhodes_Interview_Question_Bank_TEMPLATE.docx

Practice questions grouped by criterion and by your documents, for preliminary, shortlist and final interviews.

  • UK_Rhodes_Referee_Brief_TEMPLATE.docx

A factual brief for each academic and character referee: format, rank information, the reference deadline and reminders of work they saw.

  • UK_Rhodes_Application_Timeline_TRACKER.xlsx

Your constituency's deadline and reference deadline, back-planned tasks, the published milestones and a cost tracker.

Who it's for

  • Applicants in the West Africa constituency, including Nigeria and Ghana
  • Applicants in the India, Pakistan and Kenya constituencies
  • Applicants who want structure without sample essays

How the documents work together

  1. 1

Confirm your constituency: Check citizenship, residence, age and academic rules in your constituency's Information for Candidates. Bangladeshi citizens: read the Bangladesh section first. (User Guide)

  2. 2

Copy your rules in: Write your constituency's exact word limits, referee numbers, application deadline and reference deadline into the worksheets and the timeline. (Application Timeline)

  3. 3

Collect stories: Write 12 to 20 true stories and tag them to the four criteria. Check the coverage sheet for gaps. (STAR Evidence Bank)

  4. 4

Choose and brief referees: Line up the academic and character referees your constituency requires and send each one the brief and your CV. (Referee Brief)

  5. 5

Choose two Oxford courses: Pick a primary and a strong second-choice course for year one that together cover at least two years and connect to your goals. (Statement Worksheets)

  6. 6

Work the statements and CV: Answer the recall questions, plan one unified personal statement and the academic statement, then write your own text. Keep a log of every piece of help and any GenAI use. (Statement Worksheets)

  7. 7

Declare and submit: Complete the declaration of help and GenAI use for each statement, run the final checklist, submit, then chase referees until the reference deadline. (User Guide)

  8. 8

Prepare for interviews: If longlisted, practise aloud on every document you submitted, from the statements to the CV. (Interview Question Bank)

Route check

Choose this kit if you are eligible for the West Africa, India, Pakistan or Kenya constituency. Bangladeshi citizens currently have no Rhodes route because the Global Rhodes Scholarship is suspended: see the Oxford Graduate Study and Clarendon kit instead.

General information

General information, not admissions advice. Every fact in this kit is checked against the programme's own pages and linked to its source. Rules change between cycles.

Programme rule on AI and help: Declaration: for each statement you must state the help you received. If you used GenAI, name the tool and explain how you used it, including your prompts, then tick an own-work attestation. Disclosure itself does not disadvantage you.

Scholar Dossier is an independent publisher, not affiliated with or endorsed by any scholarship programme; programme names are used descriptively; no outcome is guaranteed; your essays must be your own work.

What's not included

  • Sample essays or model answers
  • Editing, review or coaching
  • Your Oxford course application after selection
  • Rules for constituencies other than West Africa, India, Pakistan and Kenya

Questions about this kit

Can I use this kit if I am from Bangladesh?

Only if you qualify for another constituency. Bangladesh is not a named constituency and the Global Rhodes Scholarship, the route for countries without one, is listed as suspended.

Can I use AI on my statements?

Rhodes allows GenAI only for limited uses such as spelling, grammar, structural suggestions and cutting your own text, and you must declare any use with the tool and your prompts. It may not generate content or tell your story.

Are the word limits the same everywhere?

No. Limits, referee numbers and deadlines differ by constituency. The kit gives the figures we confirmed and asks you to copy your own constituency's rules into each worksheet.
